I just wanted to freak out about how great the show was on Friday night in Toronto. Most of the people I talked to there were kind of glad that MA ended up missing VFest, since we'd rather have seen them at a swanky venue like the Carlu without eight million 15 years olds moshing in the mud, and without having to sit through a bunch of other not as interesting acts.
The DJ who "opened" (basically he was just there playing while people were milling around the bar area) was great, I have no idea what his name was, but the atmosphere was wicked. It felt like forever waiting for them to come on but it was so worth it - most of us Canadian fans have been waiting since 1998 for the pleasure of seeing them live. They started with False Flags, I believe, and the most amazing part was having Liz Fraser and Horace Andy there - AMAZING. We were so, so lucky to have them. I was worried they'd get someone else to sing their parts. I don't know the name of the girl who sang Shara Nelson's parts but she was really good as well. Standout moments - Angel (unbelieveable guitar work), Man Next Door and the extended Group Four used to close the show (ditto on the guitar).
I was a little worried about the quality of this type of music played live, but I was definitely proven wrong. I almost feel like I didn't enjoy myself enough because most of the time I was standing there staring at 3D thinking "this isn't actually happening is it?" I seriously thought I would go to my grave without ever seeing my most favourite band in the world live, it was so surreal. I really hope they come back soon.
